Perro Chico has an extremely strong undercurrent and is one of the most dangerous San Blas islands for unsupervised swimming. A sunken ship, the wreck, lies a few metres off the shore and is a popular snorkelling spot; take care around it, as it has sharp edges and sea urchins, and the undercurrent there is very dangerous. You can still swim and snorkel there if you follow these cautions. Never swim alone, and tell another person where you are going before entering the water. Stay where other people can see you clearly, and do not swim farther from shore than necessary. Do not follow the wreck, reef or marine life into deeper or less visible water, and do not assume conditions are safe because other people are swimming. Leave the water if the current strengthens or you become tired, and stay out of the water whenever island staff tell you to.

Round-trip transport is included. We pick you up from your hotel or Airbnb in Panama City at approximately 5:00 – 5:20 AM, then a 4x4 SUV takes you to the port and a speedboat takes you to Perro Chico Island. The return transfers are included too, ending with drop-off at your hotel or Airbnb.

We pick you up and drop you off at hotels, hostels and Airbnb in and around Panama City. When you book, search for your pickup location and the booking system will tell you whether it’s inside our pickup area. Pickups from the Westin Playa Bonita or Dreams Playa Bonita cost an extra — per person. You can change your pickup location up to 24 hours before your trip; changes on the morning of the trip aren’t possible. After your trip, we can also drop you off at Tocumen International Airport, Albrook Airport or Albrook Bus Terminal at no extra cost. Just let us know when you leave the islands so we can arrange it.

A one-night stay costs — per person. Stays of 2 nights or more cost — per person, per night. Transport, your private overwater cabin and the island meals listed in the itinerary are included. Optional excursions cost — per person, per excursion, and the Guna Border Fee is paid separately in cash.

One night or longer. Choose one night for a short island stay, or stay two nights or longer for more time between activities.

This experience offers one accommodation type: a private cabin over the water on Perro Chico Island. It sleeps 2–3 guests and uses shared bathroom facilities with basic showers that use treated water.

Neither, exactly. The showers on the islands are very basic and rustic. The water is taken from the ocean and goes through an underground treatment process, then it’s pumped up to the showers, so it isn’t salt water, but it isn’t fully fresh water like you’d find in a hotel or city either.

Solo travellers cannot book a private cabin. Larger groups can simply book, and we divide guests between cabins as needed. If you want specific arrangements, contact us before booking.

Electricity is limited and provided by generators. There is an area on the island where you can charge your phone, and island staff will point it out to you. Wi-Fi is generally available on the island while the generators are on, but once they’re turned off at night there’s no signal until the next day. Mobile signal varies a lot by island, location, time of day and weather, and phone reception in and around the islands is generally very weak.

Yes. The island meals listed in the itinerary are included, with seafood or chicken options and one beverage with each meal. The menu depends on the day’s availability. Lunch on your final day is included too. Breakfast or other food bought at the restaurant stop on the drive from Panama City is not included.

Each included meal comes with 1 drink: water, juice or soda. If you’d like more, you can buy extra drinks on the island.

Spend your days enjoying the beach, playing volleyball or adding optional excursions to nearby islands, snorkelling areas and a natural pool, depending on the options available during your visit. The wreck just off the shore is a popular snorkelling spot; never swim there alone, and stay out of the water when island staff tell you to. Snorkelling masks and a life jacket are included.

Optional excursions cost — per person, per excursion, and are booked and paid for when you reserve your stay. They can’t be added on the day of your trip. You can book up to 1 excursion on a 1-night stay, up to 2 on a 2-night stay and up to 3 on a stay of 3 nights or longer; three is the maximum for one booking. Excursions typically include visiting nearby islands, stopping at a natural pool or snorkelling. Local staff on the island provide the exact names, destinations, departure times and details, which may vary with weather and local logistics.

All extras and add-ons must be selected and paid for when you book. Once the day of your trip arrives, you can’t add or request any extras or add-ons.

Late checkout is included in the package price. Vacate your cabin at 9:00 AM for cleaning and store your luggage as directed by island staff, then keep enjoying the island until the speedboat leaves at around 3:00 PM. Lunch is included, and the estimated arrival in Panama City is 7:00 – 7:30 PM, with drop-off at your hotel or Airbnb.

Yes. You’re welcome to bring your own alcohol, drinks and snacks for your stay.

Yes. Island staff can prepare eggs with other foods such as rice, beans, potatoes, fries, salads and fruit, among other options. What’s available varies from island to island, so tell the staff your requests when you arrive. There are no vegetarian protein options such as tofu or soy products. Vegans can have a double portion of the sides, such as rice, beans and salad, in place of the chicken, meat or fish. We recommend that vegetarians and vegans bring their own snacks, food and drinks to have during and between meals.

Yes. Guna Yala is the home of the Guna people. Follow island rules, ask permission before photographing people, and leave coral and marine life undisturbed.

Starfish are usually around the natural pool, but they won’t always be there, so sightings aren’t guaranteed.
