San Blas Islands Cost: Trips, Stays and Extra Expenses

Sea San Blas • September 14, 2026

A San Blas budget is easier to plan when you separate the trip you reserve from the cash you spend along the way. At Sea San Blas, we help you compare those costs together, so a low headline price does not leave out the journey, meals, or the stay you actually want.

Quick answer: For a foreign adult, our Yanis Island day trip costs $157 including the separate border fee , before breakfast and personal spending. One night in a Franklin Island Group Cabin comes to $202 with that fee , before optional excursions and extras. These examples use rates checked on September 13, 2026, in US dollars; they exclude flights and Panama City accommodation.

Start with a complete trip budget

Build your total in four parts: the reservation, any compulsory charges outside it, optional activities, and personal spending. Then add the parts of your Panama itinerary that happen before and after San Blas. This keeps a day-trip price from being mistaken for the cost of an entire holiday.

The examples below are for one foreign adult traveling from Panama City. They use the stated adult rates, not a child's starting price, a room total, or a discounted rate that depends on a longer stay.

Budget item Yanis Island day trip Franklin Island, one night in a Group Cabin
Trip reservation $135 $180
Guna Yala border fee, paid separately in cash $22 $22
Subtotal before optional spending $157 $202
Example personal-spending allowance $25 $35
Example working budget $182 $237

The allowances are amounts you might set aside, not local price quotes or compulsory charges. Increase them if you want souvenirs, extra food or drinks, or a larger reserve. The overnight example uses the standard return and includes no optional excursion.

Rates and availability can change. Use the total for your travel dates when you reserve; these dated examples show how to do the calculation.

What our day-trip price includes

Our Yanis Island day trip combines shared round-trip 4x4 transport from Panama City, boat transfers, island visits, snorkeling masks, life jackets, and lunch with one drink. Having the road and boat connections in the same reservation makes the budget easier to follow: you do not add a second transfer allowance for those included journeys.

The adult rate is $135 for ages 10 and up. Youth ages 5–9 pay $95, and toddlers ages 0–4 pay $50. Children under 10 do not pay the border fee on this trip. For two foreign adults and one eight-year-old, the reservation is $365, and the adults' border fees add $44: $409 before breakfast and personal purchases .

That is also why a “from $50” price does not describe an adult day out. Choose each traveler's age category before comparing totals. Transport is shared, and toddlers travel on an accompanying adult's lap during the ground and boat journeys.

Breakfast at the morning stop is optional and costs extra. Bring additional drinking water for the day. Island admission fees included in this experience are separate from the Guna Yala border fee. The day starts with early pickup and returns in the evening, so allow for your Panama City meals and accommodation around it.

What changes when you stay overnight

An overnight stay buys time on the island after the day visitors leave, but the cabin price needs a little more attention. Is it per person or per room? Does it apply to one night? Are excursions included or optional?

Our Franklin Island overnight stay gives adults a choice between a shared Group Cabin and a Private Cabin. For one night, the rates are $180 and $200 per person respectively. Both include shared round-trip road and boat transport from Panama City, meals during the island stay, and one beverage per meal. Bathrooms are public and shared, including with a Private Cabin. Franklin is an adults-only experience, and both cabin types accept solo bookings.

For two foreign adults choosing a Private Cabin for one night, calculate $200 × 2, then add $22 × 2 for the border fees. The subtotal is $444 , before optional activities and personal spending. The $200 rate is not the total for the cabin.

An optional excursion adds $25 per person. A late-departure option adds $35 and includes lunch; arrange it when booking. On the single-adult Group Cabin example above, adding one excursion takes the working budget from $237 to $262 . Exact excursion options depend on local conditions.

Separate your reservation payment from cash for the trip

Paying for your reservation and carrying spending money serve different purposes. Our reservations are paid through our website or by bank transfer; we do not accept cash reservation payments. Cash is still needed for the border fee and local purchases. Our payment and refund policy explains the booking terms.

For the two experiences above, the border fee is $22 for foreign adults and $7 for Panama residents. It is outside the trip price. Set that money aside before allocating anything to snacks, drinks, souvenirs, or tips you choose to give.

There are no ATMs on the islands. Bring your planned cash from Panama City, with a reserve suited to your spending habits. Avoid counting prepaid transport or meals twice, and keep optional purchases separate from the money needed for compulsory charges.

If an activity is an add-on selected during booking, include it in the reservation calculation. Do not assume you can arrange every extra after arriving on the island.

Compare prices on the same basis

A useful comparison starts with the same number of travelers, nights, and included services. Write down the full payable total before deciding which option offers better value for you.

For accommodation, distinguish a per-person nightly rate from a whole-room price. For a boat quotation, establish whether the amount covers one person, one cabin, or the entire vessel, and the duration it covers. Divide a group total only after you know how many paying guests it includes.

Then compare the return arrangements. An overnight price with a morning departure gives you a different amount of island time from a stay with paid late departure. Meals, excursions, bathrooms, and shared transport also affect whether the experience suits you, even when two headline prices look similar.

Send us your dates, traveler ages, and preferred number of nights through our support page. We can help you identify the trip and extras that match your plans before you commit to a budget.

Ways to save without relying on a promised discount

The most useful saving is often choosing the right format. If a shared cabin suits you, compare its total with private accommodation. If you want a beach stay, price that first and add only the excursions you want. Our trip options let you compare day visits and island stays around those priorities.

A lower nightly rate for a longer stay can offer more time for the money, but it does not automatically mean a lower total bill. Compare the complete stay, including extra activities and your plans back in Panama City.

Booking ahead helps you organize the experience you want; it does not guarantee an early-booking discount. Likewise, avoid assuming a particular month is always cheaper. If a promotion is offered, use the eligible final price and its terms rather than applying an imagined discount to your entire trip.

Keep cancellation terms in the comparison too. The lowest price is less useful if it requires plans you cannot yet commit to. If the booking form is unavailable, contact us through the support page to arrange the next step.

Common budget questions

Are San Blas trips priced per person?

The day trip and cabin rates used here are per person. For a cabin stay, the number of nights and the room type also matter. A private cabin does not make the transport private.

Does an overnight booking include island hopping?

It depends on the stay. At Franklin, excursions are paid add-ons. Compare the exact itinerary and inclusions instead of assuming every overnight price includes them.

How much money should I bring beyond the booking price?

Start with the separate border fee, then add optional meals, personal purchases, and a reserve. The $25 and $35 allowances above are planning examples, not a fixed amount every traveler needs.
