What to expect on a Naranjo Chico Island stay in San Blas
Naranjo Chico Island is part of Guna Yala on Panama’s Caribbean coast: a quiet, relaxing island for unwinding, disconnecting and enjoying a peaceful natural setting. Staying overnight gives you time for the beach, meals on the island and a slower daily routine between your arrival and your return to Panama City. Keep your stay focused on Naranjo Chico, or add optional excursions to explore other islands.
Sea San Blas is 100% Guna-owned and has run trips in Guna Yala for more than 20 years. Your stay pays local captains, cooks and island hosts directly. We encourage you to respect community guidelines, ask before photographing people and leave beaches and marine life undisturbed. On Naranjo Chico, you are hosted by an island team from the local Guna community, who run the island, cook and look after guests throughout your stay.
Your cabin, with 1 double bed and 1 single bed, is private to your party, while bathroom facilities are shared with other island guests. Showers are basic and use treated water. Electricity for charging phones and devices is available, usually from a generator, during hours set by the island staff. Wi-Fi is generally available on the island while the generators are on, but once they’re turned off at night there’s no signal until the next day. Mobile signal varies a lot by island, location, time of day and weather, and phone reception in and around the islands is generally very weak. Meals are included during your stay, with one drink per meal and fresh seafood or chicken. On stays of two nights or more, full days are free time organised around meals and any excursions you select. Bed sheets are provided, but towels, soap, toiletries and other bathroom necessities are not, so bring these with you.
Who it suits
Adults aged 18 and over who want a quiet island for unwinding and disconnecting. Each private cabin takes a minimum of two and a maximum of three adults, so solo travellers cannot book one.

We coordinate your road transfers, boat connections, accommodation and return journey, so you can arrange your stay in one booking.
How do I get to Naranjo Chico Island from Panama City?
Round-trip shared transport is included. We pick you up at around 5:00 – 5:20 AM from any hotel, Airbnb, hostel or private residence within Panama City’s urban coverage area, and drive you to the port in a shared 4x4 SUV. A shared speedboat then takes you to the island in about 30 to 45 minutes, and you arrive at around 8:30 – 9:30 AM. At the end of your stay, we drop you back at your pickup location, unless you request a different drop-off point within the coverage area in advance.
Where can I be picked up and dropped off?

You can change your pickup location up to 24 hours before your trip; changes on the morning of the trip aren’t possible. After your trip, we can also drop you off at Tocumen International Airport, Albrook Airport or Albrook Bus Terminal at no extra cost. Just let us know when you leave the islands so we can arrange it.
How much does a stay on Naranjo Chico Island cost?

What is the accommodation like?
Each private cabin has 1 double bed and 1 single bed, and takes a minimum of two and a maximum of three adults. Your cabin is private to your party, while bathroom facilities, with basic showers that use treated water, are shared with other island guests. This is the only accommodation option for this stay. Bed sheets are provided, and your cabin is ready as soon as you arrive on the island.
Are the showers fresh water or salt water?
Neither, exactly. The showers on the islands are very basic and rustic. The water is taken from the ocean and goes through an underground treatment process, then it’s pumped up to the showers, so it isn’t salt water, but it isn’t fully fresh water like you’d find in a hotel or city either.
Can I book on my own or with a larger group?
Solo travellers cannot book a private cabin, as each cabin takes a minimum of two adults. Groups of four or more are arranged across as many cabins as we consider necessary.
Is there electricity, Wi-Fi or phone signal?
Electricity for charging phones and devices is available, usually from a generator, during hours set by the island staff. Wi-Fi is generally available on the island while the generators are on, but once they’re turned off at night there’s no signal until the next day. Mobile signal varies a lot by island, location, time of day and weather, and phone reception in and around the islands is generally very weak.
Can children stay on Naranjo Chico Island?
No. This is an adults-only stay, and the minimum age is 18.
Are meals included?
Yes. Meals during your island stay are included, following the itinerary, with one drink per meal: water, juice or soda. Fresh seafood or chicken is available. The menu depends on what is available each day. For vegetarian or other dietary needs, the island team is informed and can serve double portions of non-protein foods, such as rice, fruit and vegetables. Drinking water beyond the drink served with each meal, and alcohol, are not included.
What drinks are included with meals?
Each included meal comes with 1 drink: water, juice or soda. If you’d like more, you can buy extra drinks on the island.
Is breakfast on the drive included?
No. The restaurant stop at around 6:30 AM, before the mountain road, is optional. Breakfast there is not included and is paid separately.
How do optional excursions work?
Optional excursions to other islands cost — per person, per excursion. A 1-night stay allows up to 1 excursion, a 2-night stay up to 2, and a stay of 3 nights or longer up to 3, the maximum for one booking. Excursions must be selected and paid for while booking, and can’t be added on the day of your trip. Excursions typically include visiting nearby islands, stopping at a natural pool or snorkelling. Local staff on the island give exact names, destinations and departure times, which may vary with weather and local logistics.

It applies to your whole group, as everyone in your party departs together. It must be selected and paid for while booking, and can’t be added on the day of your trip.
What time do I get back to Panama City?
With standard checkout, you leave the island at 7:45 – 8:00 AM and reach Panama City at around 12:00 – 1:00 PM. With late checkout, you reach Panama City at around 7:00 – 7:30 PM.
